Performers

There will be four performance stages at the BIG on Bloor Festival,
The Long & McQuade Festival Stage at Margueretta Street, one at Pauline Street, one at St. Clarens, and one at the Responding Festival in the schoolyard at Dufferin and Bloor. They are all be filled with multi-cultural performers that are representative of the neighbourhood.

Andrew Cash
Andrew Cash is a Juno award winning singer/songwriter who has released a dozen records over the last twenty five years. As well as co-founding the seminal Toronto post punk band L`Etranger, Cash has released four solo records and four with the Cash Brothers, formed in 1999 with his songwriting sibling Peter Cash, formerly of the Skydiggers. In May 2011, Andrew was elected to be the Member of Parliament for the riding of Davenport. He's honoured to have the opportunity to play and be part of this year's BIG on Bloor festival.

Brazilian Dance World
Brazil Dance World, founded in 2006 by Goreti Cardoso and Lucas Ameral, offers a number of different Brazilian Social dance lessons and this year was the mastermind behind organizing the 1st Brazilian Dance Congress in Toronto. Brazil Dance World focuses and perfoms all of the Brazilian Ballroom dance styles including Samba de Gafieira, Brazilian Bolero, and Brazilian Swing, as well as other Brazilian partner dance styles such Forró, Zouk, Lambada and some Brazilian Carnival Dances such as Axé and Samba no Pé. Brazil Dance World is the first Brazilian Ballroom Dance Company in Toronto, often performing at different events and occasions such as festivals, fundrasing dinners, as well as public and private parties.

In collaboration with organizations such as The Collective, I Respect Music Entertainment, L.O.F.T Music, Under the Radar, UforChange and Rollpunch Entertainment, “Big Tings” is sure to make a BIG impact on this year's BIG festival. R. F. da Casa das Beiras Community Centre
Our folklore group, Rancho Académico de Viseu of Toronto, was founded in February 1992. Composed of both youth and adults, we have had the fortunate opportunity to perform in various location across Canada, USA, as well as Portugal. As a representation of Beira Alta, note that the traditional costumes reflect the best of what exists in the Beiras Regions, particularly the rural dress and the festive dress. Our repertoire also reflects field dances and festive dances. The involvement of our volunteer performers has provided the opportunity to develop relationships and collectively enjoy the culture, which is represented in the dances, costumes, and songs.

R. F. Estrelas do Norte was founded in 2008. Currently, the Rancho consists of 42 elements, between the ages (2 years to 50 years old) Portuguese and Luso Canadians. During this time of existence we can proudly say that Rancho also had several performances in Southern Ontario including Portugal week, Chin Picnic and many community events. We have also had the privilege of performing in our native Portugal. The objective of this Rancho is continuing traditional Portuguese folklore as it has been done throughout the years representing our Portuguese Culture with singing and dancing of Northern Portugal.

R. F. da Casa dos Poveiros of Toronto
Poveiros Community Centre is a traditional folklore group representing Povoa de Varzim, Portugal. The traditional outfit is that of the fishermen and women, that used to dance barefoot along the sand by the ocean. The symbols on the shirts represent the different family names and are unique to this area. Their songs are fast paced with unique steps, in some, you can even see the waves of the ocean mimicked throughout the dance.

Associa Cultural Do Minho De Toronto was founded in October 13, 1977. Our folklore group has performed in several location across Canada, USA and Portugal. Our group specifically represents the Northern most part of Portugal referred to as Alto Minho where the music played at a faster pace. Our costumes are colourful in apprearance and each one tells a different story. Some were only worn by the rich, while others for those who worked the fields, all these costumes come together to display a colourful picture our the Portuguese Culture.

R. F. As Tricanas of Toronto
The Folklore group "As TRICANAS" was Founded in 1980 by a group of Portuguese Parents from Toronto Their main objective was to preserve and celebrate the cultures they acquired in their native Portugal by teaching their children the traditional dances. They succeeded and their first official performance was on April 5th.1980. A "Tricana" is considered a cultural symbol in the region of Coimbra, A "Tricana" is admirably known for her rich looking clothing, especially a luxurious scarf worn over her shoulders.
Dancing was part of everyday life. They would dance to wine-down after a long day's work, to celebrate a weekend, friendship or just for the fun of it. The group has been performing throughout the province of Ontario , several parts of United States Of America ( USA) , and Portugal, in Festivals , Competitions, and other events like the Portugal day Parade in Toronto . The Group consists of 25 dancers, and 12 menbers in the live music band.
