SHUTTERS asks visitors, “how much art does one allow in?” Are your blinds closed to community projects or do you let it all in? Do you engage or view from a distance?
Various local BIPOC artists present SHUTTERS which encourages visitors to change their work by blocking out parts as you deem fit, create icons or messages with the shutter panels or block it out completely. Artists serve the community. Creativity can be blindly consumed without appreciating those behind the scenes, especially during this pandemic.
SHUTTERS 2020 is currently on-view in the alleyway of Three Spee Bar and Bloor Collegiate Institute. SHUTTERS REVISITED is on display beside The Bee Shop until September 5th, 2021 featuring artwork by Curtia Wright and Jien June Kim.
